Random Question Sunday

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!!

It's time for Keely's Getting to Know YOU!!

1. Have you ever snooped around someone else's house?

I'm sure that I have done a little medicine cabinet looking, at some point or another.

2. Can guys and girls be friends? ( thanks Jen!)

I almost vlogged this, like Keely did, but typing is easier, lol.

It SOOOOO depends. I have a few guy friends where there is absolutely NOTHING there, period. Neither of us are interested and I can't see that changing.

Then, there's the other side of the coin.

TG and I started out as friends and I fell. Hard. Regardless of how things have ended up, there was always a "more than just friends" vibe between us. When we went out to eat, he knew I wanted unsweet tea to drink and I knew he'd want two pieces of my gum after we were done. He knew I wanted my sub completely plain and I knew he needed an extra plate for his ketchup. Last week, with everything going on with my brother, he knew that I'd desperately be in need of a hug, asked "Aunt M" to give me one from him, and then emailed me to make sure I got it. Clearly, I feel more than he does..... the vibe may have been more on my end than his, but we have never been "just friends."

There's also a friendship that I have where the guy feels more than I do. His persistance in trying to "convince" me that we'd be good together has caused a bit of a rift between us.

FD and I are friends. Flirty friends.

All that to say........ it totally depends. I can't say it's out of the question, but when men and women start up friendships, it can get sticky.

3. Can you curl your tongue?

Nope. For the longest time, I wanted to be able to and would practice in the mirror. Then, I found out that it's a thing you can either do or not.

4. Have you ever stolen anything?

In 1st grade, we had book orders. My teacher thought a book was mine, but it wasn't. For some reason, I took it home, anyway. My mom asked me where I got the book and then I got in trouble for stealing the book.

It was traumatic and I've tried not to steal anything since, lol.

5. Would you rather talk on the phone or text?

It depends on who I'm talking with and what the conversation is about. I don't really like having long discussions via text..... I'd prefer just picking up the phone and talking.

With work, though, I've found that I prefer emailing over phone. Sometimes, if it's a quick question, I'll call someone up to ask the question and just touch base. Otherwise, I prefer email. That way, it's in writing.

Plus, if I'm being honest, many times when someone calls they want to spend 10 minutes on the phone trying to convince me to promote their event/product. This sounds cold, but I can't stand the pitch. To everyone, their event/product is the most important or the best cause or going to be the biggest the city has ever seen, etc. Then, they'll want to meet in person to discuss it..... I hate that even more. Honestly, their emotions and plans have very little to do with whether or not we'll promote the event.  I basically try to get them to send me a flyer or short email with the information.

6. Memorial Day plans?

None, really. I'm just happy that I don't have to work, lol. I need to clean/organize a little. I'm sure there will be some more grilling and possible a movie, at some point.

7. What do you do to relax?

TV, movies, reading, hanging out with friends, Disney, dancing, naps.

8. Do you do anything to honor those that have died fighting for our freedom?

Honestly, no. We had a special recognition at church, this morning.

Friday, May 28, 2010

YAY!!! It's Friday!!!

Not only is it a 3-day weekend, but it's a 3-day weekend where I. DON'T. HAVE. TO. WORK!!!!!!

You may not know how rare this is....... It's rare, people.

Most 3-day weekends are spent at car lots or mattress stores or furniture stores or fireworks shows or grocery stores or any random place that decides to have a Memorial/Labor/Indepedence/MLK/New Year's Day sale and wants us to talk about it on the radio.

Not this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!

The Lord smiled upon me and I have ALL THREE DAYS off!!!

Clearly, I'm excited.

First order of business..............

My friends and I are headed to drinks, dinner (with a sure thing of Banana's Foster Sundae, for dessert), and then off to see the show.

So excited!!

Besides a hair appointment tomorrow, I have no plans for the rest of the weekend and I'm psyched about it, lol.

Now that I've had my little "I don't have to work this weekend" song and happy dance..........

1. Is there something you've always wanted to try but just can't muster up the courage to actually do yet?

Several things......... some of it is money-related, some of it is common sense and logic related, and some of it I don't actually want to do, it just sounds adventurous, lol.

Pick up and move to another state (California, NYC, Nashville)..... Bungee Jump.... Sky-dive.... to name a few things.

2. If you had $100 handed to you in cash without your significant other knowing about it, what would you spend it on?

This is where not having a significant other comes in handy..... I don't have to consult with anyone on what I'm about to spend $100 on, lol.

That said, probably something Vera or just new clothes.

3. What was your favorite piece of playground equipment as a child?

The jungle gym because I liked to pretend I was climbing a mountain and the swings because I liked to pretend I was flying.

4. Do you prefer a sweet or hearty breakfast?

It totally depends on my mood. Most of the time, I have to have a mixture of the two.

This question has me craving Florida-style Pancakes from Keke's, though.

5. Are you a Neat Freak or a Messy Bessy?

Again..... both.

I am very organized, but it's a messy organization. I have "piles." Don't mess with my piles because I know exactly what is in them.

If you looked at my car, my office, or my room, you'd think a small windstorm had hit them. But, everything does actually have a place and I'm very particular about where that place is.

Also, when I line things up or have things sitting a certain way, please don't mess with it. I'll just have to go back and fix it. A certain former coworker of mine (TG, obviously) used to think it was hysterical to come into my office and really quickly make everything on my desk slightly askew. Then, he would delight in watching me try NOT to fix it while he was still in the room.

Another factor is when I'm organizing for someone else. It will be the most anal system you will ever see. It's so organized, neat, and specific that an untrained monkey should be able to follow it, lol. For example, my dancers would call me "Miss Jessica the Nazi" come recital time because I had "the book." I was always the laid back and easy going teacher the entire year, until it came to the recital. Then, I had an entire book which specified where EVERYONE should be at any given time during the show. Hey, we were responsible for 100 minors.... I wasn't taking any chances.

Monday Minute.....

First off, I'm watching "The Bachelorette" and Ali's laugh is starting to get on my nerves.

Head over to Ian's for Monday Minute......

1 - Do you *snort*?

Rarely, but it happens, lol.

2 - Our friend, has a nickname and it's Daffy. What's your nickname?

Jess, JB, J, Turkeyface, Angel, Rose

3 - Do you know sign language?

Not really

4 - What's a sample convo from your hood?

I'm from the South and a county of huge meth dealers/addicts. Therefore, it's an interesting mixture of "ya'll" and "yo, what up."

5 - Do you sleep with electronic devices - i.e. laptop, Blackberry, iPhone, etc?

My cell phone serves as my alarm clock, so it stays on my nightstand.

My answers are sort of boring, tonight.

Update, Random Questions, and Swap

First, an update on Trevor....

He came home, yesterday. They still aren't sure where the problem originated and can't promise that it won't happen, again. We were ALL more than a little nervous about him going home when they hadn't solved the problem.

They gave him some emergency meds, in case it happens again. If it does, the meds will keep his heart rate low enough long enough for us to get him to a hospital. No driving, no sports, no meds, no caffeine for 8 weeks.... then, they'll revisit the subject.

We all prayed that the Lord would solve whatever was wrong with him. Hopefully, He did. If you could keep him in your prayers for the next little while, I'd appreciate it.

Next up......

The questions can be found at MannLand5.....

1. Do you have a fetish?

Not really

2. Do you sing in the shower?

No..... my concerts are reserved for the car.

3. Who was your first crush?

Trenton Turner. His family and mine were close friends. I was best friends with his little sister and he was a  couple years older than me. I was four and totally in love.

4. What do you think is the best manly trait a guy could have?

Physically - Strong hands and shoulders. Love them.

Character - I love a guy with a great sense of humor and who is good with kids. There is nothing more sexy than a man who can make me laugh and who can hold his own with a room full of kids, imo.

5. Do you sleep naked?

No. I actually hate it. It's not comfortable for me to have everything aflying. I even prefer to sleep with a sports bra.

6. What do you do when (you think) no one is looking?

Adjust my bra.

Smile at myself in a window/mirror to see if my face is looking bloated or not (this is what happens when you spend years trying to lose weight).

7. What's the first thing you do when you go online?

Email..... then, Facebook.... then, work email..... then, Blogger

8. Summer is.....?

Hot, hot, hot and long, long, long. I live in Florida, people.

Don't forget my swap! This week is the last week to sign up......

My Little Brother

I realized earlier that I don't talk about my family much, on this blog. It's not that I don't love them or aren't close with them. Actually, quite the opposite. I love them dearly and see them every single day. Pretty much every night, we're gathered around the TV watching Glee or Grey's or arguing about who should get kicked off of American Idol. We all ride separately to church every Sunday, but sit together and then go to lunch.

There's my baby brother, Trevor. He was born when I was 9 1/2. When he was in K-2 grade, I was 10-12. I drove him to school every morning and home most days after school. I'll never forget him running to the edge of the playground every time he saw me changing classes. Or, him walking through the halls with me and people I wasn't even friends with saying, "Hey, Trevorman!!" He's literally the coolest kid you'll ever meet. He's funny and charming and athletic and caring.

Being raised in a daycare, he's always been awesome with kids. This summer, he was on a mission's trip to North Carolina and he was assigned to a sports camp where there was this little autistic boy. The little boy hadn't spoken to anyone for the whole 6 weeks he'd been there. The 2nd day of Trevor's week, he started talking to Trevor. He wouldn't leave Trev's side.

Since then, Trevor has been to a national convention of our church's youth. Our former pastor was there (he's now the regional superintendant) and he started talking to Pastor Larry about ministry. He feels like he's being called to be a Youth Pastor.

He gets on my nerves and can be your typical little brother, don't get me wrong. But, I've always hated when he was in pain or even when he was sad. He's my baby brother.

Well, Wednesday night, my mom and I were on our way back from a Tampa excursion when she called Trevor to see if he was home from church. He was visiting a church in the next city over and she wanted to see how it had gone. While on the phone, Trevor told my mom that his chest was hurting. It started while he was driving home and was getting worse. He has asthma, so mom asked if he was having trouble breathing..... "No, mom. I'm breathing just fine. It's my chest. My heart hurts."

Mom said that she would check on him when she got home... we were about 15 minutes away. When we got home, she checked in and he said it was getting worse. She took his pulse and his heart rate was at 140. To the ER, it was.

By the time they got to the ER and they took his vitals, it was at 229. They immediately took him back to the Critical Care Unit and started working to bring his heart rate down. My stepdad and I got in the car and rushed down there.

They managed to stablize him, but his heart rate was still too high for resting. They spent all day yesterday running tests to try to figure out what the problem was. Finally, they came to the conclusion that it's either Supreventricular Tachycardia or Ventricular Tachycardia. SVT would be way preferable to VT. They would have to do a procedure to explore his heart and find out which one.

Today, they spent almost 4 hours exploring. They couldn't find where the problem had originated. They were able to find another abnormality (that didn't cause the problem) and fix it. They tried to find what they were looking for, but just couldn't.

They ran a few more tests and should have the results, tomorrow. If everything checks out, they will send him home tomorrow or Sunday. From then, they'll monitor him closely for the next 8 weeks. No driving, no sports, no caffeine, no meds (he takes ADD and acne meds).

He's scared out of his mind, but is keeping great spirits. He's literally got visitors from the moment they allow them to the moment they kick him out. Obviously, my mom is staying with him.

He's 17 years old. He's ending his Junior year. He likes baseball and lives for the Red Sox..... one of his dreams is to go to every major league baseball park in the country (he's about halfway there).

He's 17 and is the only one under 50 currently on the Cardiac Floor.

I'm kind of freaking out, to be honest.

I've been going to work during the day because I can't just handle sitting in a waiting room all day while he's getting tests/procedures. Then, I go and sit up at the hospital until my mom kicks me out, lol.

I trust that God has this under control. I really do. It's a good thing He knows what's going on, because goodness knows no one else does.

If you would keep Trevor in your prayers, I'd really appreciate it.

8x8: Taylor in a Band Uniform

Krystal at Krystal's Kitsch tagged me in this 8x8 game.

So to play this game, you have to go to the 8th photo album, get the 8th picture and then tell the story of it. After that tag 8 bloggers. Here it goes...

8 x 8

Taylor Swift's Orlando show..... Opening Number

Story: Ever heard of Taylor Swift? If not, you're living under a rock in Mongolia, lol. Anyway, this photo is from her Orlando show. I was blessed to go to both the Tampa and Orlando shows, this March.

When you think Tim McGraw...............

It's official! Summer concerts are upon us!! The Ford Amp has a Country Series every summer and the first concert was Tim McGraw with Lady Antebullem and Love & Theft on May 7th.

I'd been looking forward to this concert for a really long time. J and I planned to make it an all out Girls' Night. Honestly, I was more excited about Lady A than Tim.

There was some stuff going on during Love & Theft, so I didn't see them. I was ok with that, though, lol. We had an Outback Pre-Party and Meet & Greets, so we chose that over L&T.

Lady A and I

Tim McGraw and I - clearly, I need a tan.

"Star Tonight"

"Love Don't Live Here"...... They put on SUCH an awesome show. I plain adore them!!

They didn't sing "Love This Pain" and it kind of made me sad. If you don't have BOTH of their albums....... stop what you're doing. Just leave my blog up on your computer. It's not going anywhere. Alright.... go to WalMart or Target or ITunes or FYE and get BOTH of their albums. One of the first songs you need to listen to is "Love This Pain."

"Need You Now" - The song that made them a crossover act.

Seriously, I adore them.

"Lookin For A Good Time"

I normally don't endorse wife beaters (the shirts). However, with those shoulders, I'll make an exception.

Before Tim McGraw started, J and I met up with two of our friends.... G and LA.

While Tim was singing a boring song, it was photo shoot time....

J and I

G and LA

LA and I

G and I....... FYI - G was wearing a perfectly acceptable plaid button-down shirt. Then, when Tim McGraw came out with the wife beater, G's overshirt disappeared.

J and G

All of us...... see the woman on the top left with the hat? I'm pretty sure she's praying, "Dear Lord, please make these people go away."

A couple more of Tim, for the road.........

Monkey Minute....

Head over to Ian's blog to participate!!!

Photobucket

Have you ever peed in the shower/bath/pool?

Shower and pool, yes. Not in the bath....... 1) I barely take baths and 2) that's gross.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Bad liars who think they are fooling you - This REALLY bugs me. People tend to think I'm naive/stupid and can't tell that they're lying to me.

Not following through on promises. - I know things happen, but it bugs me when people will constantly make promises and then never follow through. When it's a pattern, it's just plain rude.

What's the story behind your blog title?

Not really all that interesting...... I'm typically called "the good girl" or "the girl next door" or "the All-American girl." Sometimes, it actually feels like an insult, lol. Anyway, when I decided to start a blog, I just thought it would fit.

What is your definition of success?

When you set out to achieve something by thinking through the outcome and reaching that outcome. That's success to me. <------ I like this answer by Ian.

Yesterday at church, my pastor said something that I loved, "Don't be afraid of failure, but of succeeding at things that don't matter." It's so true....... succeed at family and friends and love and giving back. The rest is just decoration.

If you were famous, what would you want to be famous for?

I'm in entertainment, so it would be awesome to be so talented that I was known for singing/acting/writing/directing/etc.

Really, though, I would just like to be known for being a nice person. Someone that you can count on.

Random Question Sunday

The questions can be found at MannLand5......

1. The most expensive thing hanging in my closet is.....?

I have no idea..... a couple of Vera Bradley bags I have?

2. Have you ever played a team sport?

I cheered for four years and danced for over twenty.

3. If you were a bug, what kind would you be?

I'll go with a ladybug, too. They are a bug that I won't kill.

4. Where on your body is the worst place to get sunburned? (thanks Ian)

Lips, scalp, shoulders, and feet.

Clearly, I've been burned a lot.

5. Are you happy?

I'm getting there :). The past several months have been rough, but I'm working on it.

I'm very blessed, though. Overall, I'm a happy person and have countless things to be thankful for.

6. People are always abbreviating..are there any abbreviations that make your skin crawl when people use them?

Not really. I know I use "lol" a lot and that seems to annoy people, lol (pun slightly intended).

7. Do you love where you live..or could you live anywhere?

I love my hometown. I really, really do. We have so many traditions here.... I feel like there's something unique about it. At the same time, I love living in between two major cities with so much to offer.

That said, I'd be ok if life leads me elsewhere. There are a few places I know I do not want to live, but I'm pretty much open.

8. What, if any, extreme measures do you go to to keep yourself from overeating when you're full?

I need to work on more extreme measures, lol. This weekend has been bad.

Usually, I just try to remind myself that I don't want to gain weight.... that I need to keep losing the fat that I have stored on my body. Throughout the day, I track my calories to help me know where I stand.

A little OCD...

One of my coworkers has a big bag of M&Ms in a desk drawer. Once or twice a week, I'll go and grab a handful. Just enough to satisfy any sweet cravings.

As I was eating my handful, today, I realized that I was color coordinating them before eating them. I'm pretty sure I do this with Jelly Beans and Skittles, too.

Does anyone else do this or am I the only one, lol?

Mission Monkey Minute

Ian has dedicated this week's Monday Minute to his friend's daughter Monkey......

Photobucket

1 - How old do you act?

I guess my age..... sometimes way older (I can be a grandma, sometimes) and sometimes way younger.

2 - As far back as you can remember, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I've always wanted to be in entertainment....... a dancer, an actress, a director, a singer........ those were all options in my mind. As long as it was in entertainment, I wanted it, lol.

3 - If you were to write a book based on your life, what would the title be?

Not quite.....

4 - What's something that you do that's considered "childish" by most?

Well, I still live at home. That's probably one, lol..... granted, it works for all of us, but whatever.

5 - The last question isn't a question. Write a story of a time of when you or someone you know overcame great adversity.

I've already told this story, but.........

More my mom than me........ I was born with my intestines wrapped around organs and tied in knots. When I was 9 days old, I had to have surgery to correct it. In 1983, there were 12 babies born with my condition and only 3 of us lived. Needless to say, it was a very serious situation and it was a long time before I was out of the woods.

Now, I'm hardly able to take credit for "fighting it out." But, my parents certainly went through the wringer. I was their first and only child together. I can't imagine what they went through while I was sick.

Friday Questions.... Sunday Questions...... eh, we'll split the difference

I'm a day late for my Friday meme's and Keely did GTYS a day early. So, we'll call it even, lol.

MannLand5's Getting to know YOU

The questions..

1. What has been your most memorable Mother's Day? (with your mom, as a mom, or with your wife)

My senior year of high school, I was in Honduras on Mother's Day. Our senior trip was a mission's trip and was mandatory. For some unknown reason, it was always the weekend of Mother's Day, lol. That was the only time I haven't been with my mom on Mother's Day.

All of us HS kids.... it was all a new thing for us. There was only one phone in our hotel. We had to go to the lobby to be able to dial out long-distance. There was a line out the door of all of us, trying to call our mommies and wish them a happy day, lol. Our teachers took a picture of it and posted it on the blog they were updating daily (you know, so the parents knew we were still alive).

2. Have you ever been pulled over for speeding and were you able to talk your way out of it?

*knock on wood* I've never been pulled over.

3. What's the oldest thing you have hanging in your closet?

Um.... I have no clue. When I moved, I did a pretty big purge, so everything is no more than a few years old.

Wait a minute.... if you count the hall closet.... I still have ALL of my old dance costumes. I danced from age 3 until 25, so there are a LOT of costumes.

4. Do you whiten your teeth?

No, but I'm thinking about it. I'm always told that I have pretty white teeth, but they aren't white-white.

I'm a little nervous about whitening because I already have sensitive teeth. Plus, whitening tooth paste makes my mouth break out.

5. Underwear or Panties..What do you call your "unmentionables"?

Panties

6. If you could go on vacation right now..today..where would you go?

New Mexico to visit my cousin Heidi and her family.

7. Do you get offended when people cuss on their blogs?

Not really. It's like life.... if there's an overabundance, I'll tune them out.

I don't cuss on my blog, but that's mainly because I rarely cuss in life. More than I should, but way less than what's considered "normal."

8. If you had to give up one luxury item, it would be....?

No clue.

Fill in the Blank Friday, from The Little Things We Do

1. My favorite book growing up was the "Babysitters Club" series..... "Boxcar Children" series... "Anne of Green Gables" series. I loved books and reading!!

2. The funniest book I've ever read was probably ....... coming up blank. I tend to laugh, cry, get mad, etc while I'm reading, so I can't really think of a straight-up comedy book.

3. The one book that has truly changed my life is ..... again..... coming up blank. This isn't going so well. I promise, I read. I have half a library.... my car trunk is literally full of books. I do read.

4. If you're looking for a real "tear jerker" you should probably read "My Sister's Keeper" and "Nineteen Minutes" by Jodi Picoult. I cried and cried.

5. If I could meet any author living or dead I would want to meet Jane Austen. I'm curious to know if she's really as amazing as I've dreamt her to be in my head. "Pride and Prejudice" is my favorite love story and I'd love to just hang out and pick her brain over a cup of tea ............ (this is a complete copy of Lauren's answer.... I feel the EXACT same way)

6. The next book on my "to read" list is "The Last Song." My friend Meg gave it to me for Christmas and I just haven't had a chance to read it. It's sitting on my nightstand, waiting for me to pick it up, lol.

7. If I was snowed into remote cabin in the woods and could only choose three books to bring with me ..... I'm cheating..... I'd take the Harry Potter series. They are long and HIGHLY entertaining.

1. What is your worst memory of your siblings?

I don't really have any. I have two step-sisters that liked to cause drama, but other than that????

My brother (ten years younger than me) once bit a hole in my pants. I was wearing pajama bottom style pants (remember when those were popular?) and he wouldn't get out of my room. He was in Kindergarten and I was in the 10th grade. As I was holding him by his arms and legs, carrying him out of my room, he just grabbed onto my pants with his teeth. I had these tiny little holes in my pants, lol.

I was so mad, until my mom told him that he couldn't go to the concession stand after school, for two weeks to pay for them. We went to the same K-12 school. I would pick him up from his Kindergarten class (on days I didn't have cheerleading practice) and we would go to the concession stand and buy him a snack. He got a dollar a day to buy a snack. He was so excited every day to go "like the big kids." She told him he couldn't go for two weeks... that $10 would pay for half of the pants. He cried. I cried. I convinced her to cut it down to a week. He was so sad that whole week when he had to pass the concession stand.

2. What was YOUR naughtiest childhood memory? (Must be something YOU did, no pawning it off on someone else!)

"Sneaking" into an R-rated movie when I was 15? No, really.... that's about as bad as it gets.

Sad, I know.

3. Where do you like to go to relax?

I like my couch, just fine, lol.

I also like Disney. For me, all stress melts away when I'm on Disney property.

4. What was the last thing you won?

I won some candles at a baby shower. I ROCK shower games.

5. If you could be on a game show, which would you choose?

Celebrity Jeopardy. Of course, I'd have to be a celebrity to get on it. But, I can only answer about 1/4 of the real Jeopardy questions, whereas I can answer about 3/4 of the Celebrity Jeopardy questions.
