Half-Marathon........... Thoughts?

As you know, by now, I have been working really hard. I workout a lot. Like, 5-6 days a week. I do this to be healthy, but also to help me lose weight. My goal is to be a certain weight by my ten-year reunion, next June.

However, I'm thinking of adding another goal to my list.

A couple weeks ago, I was at my friend Meg's baby shower. At the shower were her sister Robyn and our friend Shannon. Robyn has recently gotten into running and Shannon has done races, in the past. We started talking and decided that doing the Disney Princess Half-Marathon together would be great. It would be fun bonding time, would give us a concrete reason to workout regularly, and would be an overall amazing experience.

Since then, the conversation has floated through my head a couple times, but that was it. Last night, though, Robyn FBed me with links and questions.

It looks like I may actually do this thing.

Here's the rub........ I don't run. I mean, I can learn to, but I would basically be taking the next 5 1/2 months to learn.

According to the rules, you need to pace at a 16-minute mile. When I'm on the treadmill, I walk a little faster than a 15-minute mile. I've gone as long as an hour (4.2 miles)..... which means I'm almost 1/3 of the way there. I'm not exactly starting from scratch. So, if I can work on distance, etc, I think it might be possible.

Are any of you runners or long-distance walkers/woggers?

Any thoughts on someone who doesn't run signing up for a half-marathon that is only 5 1/2 months away?

Am I crazy for even thinking about this?

You need to talk to my friend, Linzi! She writes over at http://destination262.wordpress.com.

That sounds like a really fun marathon to try! I don't think I could ever run that far (even for a half marathon) but I'm so impressed by those who can! If you're interested, I say go for it! The worst that can happen is you walk most of it!

I am starting C25K the week after Disney. My goal is to run a 5K sometime this winter -- I was actually looking at the 5K event during the Princess Half but I doubt we could swing another trip so soon.

Let me know what you decide! You and so many other bloggy/twitter friends are my fit inspiration. We've gotten fat and lazy after the wedding last year, we're so cliche.
